The National Parks Service in the US is celebrating it’s centennial and national parks everywhere are wonderful places that you can discover and enjoy our world for all its natural beauty.
Yellowstone National Park in the US was the first ever to be designated in 1872, but now most countries have dedicated National Parks and places of national beauty, so here’s an inspirational list of just some of our favourites.
1. Uluru and Kata Tjuta – Australia
Uluru, formerly known as Ayers Rock, is a massive monolith in the heart of Australia’s red centre. A sacred to indigenous Australians, Uluru can be found within the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, which also includes the 36 red-rock domes of the Kata Tjuta (colloquially “The Olgas”) formation of rocks. Visiting this aboriginal sacred site was simply amazing!
2. Tikal national park – Guatemala

3. Pagsanjan Falls, Pagsanjan Gorge National Park – Philippines
The Pagsanjan Falls in Laguna, is often locally referred to as Magdapio Falls. This is one of the most visited day trip destinations in The Philippines and is easily accessible from Manilla. 4. Yosemite – USA California
What is there to say about Yosemite that hasn’t been said already? A jewel in the crown of the US national parks. Yosemite has inspired Ansel Adams, Apple and millions of visitors. We’ve been numerous times and each visit is magically very different. Best experienced as a weekend break from San Francisco or better still as part of a great American road trip. 5. Iguazu Falls National Park – Argentina
The beauty and importance of Iguazu is recognised by Unesco, this semi-circular water fall is one of the most stunning on this earth! 6. Tatra National Park – Poland
This stunning national park is located in the Tatra Mountains in Tatra County, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship—Małopolska region, in central-southern Poland. The Tatras are Poland’s only alpine-type mountains. A lesser well known national park destination than some of the others here but a hidden gem! Find out more here: http://www.tanap.org
7. Snowdonia National Park – UK, Wales
A beauty spot in north-west Wales, Snowdonia is a simply stunning part of the United Kingdom. Mount Snowdon itself, has a historic railway running up it and on a clear day offers views of the Irish sea and Ireland itself. Mount Snowdon rises majestically and is surrounded by stunning countryside riddled with and extensive network of trails and over 100 lakes. 8. Kruger National Park – South Africa
One of South Africa’s largest and most well known game reserves and areas of conservation. Kruger includes mountains, bush plains and tropical forests. Be inspired and find out more here: https://www.sanparks.org
9. Lake District National Park – UK, England
This is England’s largest national park and includes over 200 fell tops to its mountain ranges. Lakeland is home to idyllic villages, high moorlands, picturesque lakes and has inspired the likes of Beatrix Potter, Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge and John Ruskin amongst others. Whether you enjoy hiking, museums or just looking for a leisurely drive through beautiful scenery, this national park is heavenly. 10. Phnom Kulen National Park – Cambodia
Kulen mount is considered to be the most sacred mountain in Cambodia. It is situated at north east of Angkor Complex about 50 Km, it takes approximately 2 hours drive up to the hill top. Phnom Kulen has always been of great religious, cultural and archaeological significance. Popular spots at Kulen are the waterfall, the River of the One Thousand Lingas, the reclining Buddha of Preah Ang Thom, as well as the sandstone elephant of Srah Damrei.
