Despite our online lives, nothing beats meeting up with friends and family. At Navmii, we believe that life is still about people and shared experiences and we’ve partnered with another company that shares this vision.
Today we’re excited to share with you that Navmii has become the first navigation app to fully integrate What3Words. Like Navmii, What3Words exists to make those very connections between people and places stronger and easier to experience. But first let us set the scene.
What’s the problem?
So where shall we meet? A common question when making arrangements to meet up.
Straightforward when you have a full address and postcode that points to an exact meeting place. But what happens if you’re meeting up at Burning Man, Glastonbury, The V Festival, at a campsite or even at a hikers cabin half way up a track on the side of a mountain?
Places like these can have multiple entry gates and potential meeting points. And in rural locations, lots of places of interest don’t even have a street, a postcode or describable landmarks that you an use to easily pin point a location. And who can cope with GPS coordinates? I mean really? Ain’t nobody got time for that!
What3Words makes connecting people and places much easier with an addressing system that identifies locations in ‘just.three.words’.
So how does it work?
What3words automatically assigns a three-word address to any 3m x 3m square, on a grid of 57 trillion squares across the globe. The concept is simple: simplifying the ability to share an exact location by replacing long numbers/ codes with a short string of three words.
So, What3Words makes meeting you at the door of The Hospital Club (a private members club in the heart of Covent Garden, which technically has a street address, but is unmarked by a street number on arrival) as easy as remembering and navigating to punk.pushed.clever using your smartphone. After all, punk.pushed.clever is much easier to remember than 24 Endell Street, WC2H 9HQ; and seems apt for a club that centres around the creative industries.
Better still, Navmii now has the world’s best addressing system built in. So now you can get around using three simple words or conventional postal addresses.
Now, when you search for a location in Navmii, you’ll be shown it on the map and given the What3Words location. You can easily share that 3 words location with your friends using Navmii or the What3Words app. And you can just pop three word addresses into Navmii search and it will show you the precise pin point on the map and give you voice guided instructions telling you just how to get there.
Navmii and What3Words in three words: SEARCH.FIND.MEET. OK, we just made that up. Not a real location 🙂
